Purpose means to have meaning, to have a reason for life. It moves us, keeps us going, energizes us, answers all the questions and gives us strength to face the “hows”.

It creates an identity, an understanding of who you are, what you stand for, and where you’re going. It defines how you connect with the world around you.

Examples:

  1. A mid-forties married male had a passion project mentoring local at-risk youth. The opportunity to be the positive force that he felt was missing from his childhood was a powerful driver.
  2. A late-twenties single woman focused on climate and political activism. The chance to inspire others to spark change was exhilarating.

On the 21st and 22nd of May in Silver Spring (Maryland), 120 peacebuilders from 90 organizations gathered together for the forum “Sustainable Peace Networks: Dialogue between Different Perspectives and Faiths”. Margaret Karram, President of the Focolare Movement and Co-President Jesús Morán also participated.
Organized by the Focolare Forum for Dialogue and CultureFocolare FoundationFocolare Media, Inc together with several partners, the event brought together leaders of various religions, grassroot activists, and representatives of institutions so as to build networks and strategies aimed at bringing peace, combatting polarization, and fostering integrated societies.

Ample space was given to dialogue on the challenges and ways for overcoming divisions and recognizing the richness of cultural diversity.

Chandra DeNap Whestine (COO at OneAmerica Movement) wrote: “I have met people from all over the world who are committed to building peace in some of the most difficult contexts, and the lesson I have heard again and again is that healing begins with small but courageous acts of love.”

Personal growth is about how we continue to learn new things, understand new methods, develop new skills, and apply new tactics.

Growth occurs when we are open and take in what’s around us: by listening, watching, pausing, wrestling, doubting, questioning, suffering, accepting, abandoning, creating, breathing, touching, emptying. These actions allow us to go from point A to point B. Then our entire perspective changes and we grow.
